The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining 12,750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185,000 corners throughout the city. As one of SIM's technical review units, the mission of the Builder's Waivers Program is to enforce the compliance of the agency's standards for construction in the ROW when conducting plan reviews for ROW projects submitted by consultants or managing construction by in house crews.

The College Aide's responsibilities will include compiling and analyzing data, filling out any necessary paperwork for construction projects, assisting with managing and enhancing database systems, and performing various administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Data Compilation and Analysis:
-Collect and analyze data related to DOT owned step streets, and in-house street improvement projects including daily construction activities, and post-construction inspections.
-Collect all necessary documentation and accurately fill out paperwork as needed, to be reviewed by senior engineers.
-Assist in identifying trends, patterns, and discrepancies within the data to ensure compliance with NYC Standards of Construction and the ADA.
-Utilize analytical tools to generate reports and insights.

2.Database Management:
-Assist with managing and enhancing database systems used for storing and accessing project-related information including ArcGIS and MS Access.
-Input, update, and verify data within the database to ensure accuracy and completeness.
-Collaborate with team members to implement improvements and optimizations to the database systems.

3.Administrative Support:
-Provide general administrative support to unit staff.
-Assist with drafting correspondence, memos, and other written communications.

Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
