Certified Pharmacy Tech Specialty (Full-time Day, Greer)

Job Summary

Under the direction of a pharmacist, a specialty pharmacy technician performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with departmental policies and procedures and participates as an active member of the specialty pharmacy team to provide pharmaceutical care for patients.

Accountabilities

Performs all technician functions specific to specialty pharmacy including:

a. Creates patient profiles in multiple software systems (dispensing software, patient management software, cover my meds, etc.)

b. Conducts benefits investigations on all specialty prescriptions

c. Assists pharmacists with prior authorizations/appeals

d. Clarifies orders with pharmacist and/or providers as necessary

e. Coordinates initial fills and refills for all specialty medications

f. Educates patients/caregivers to specialty pharmacy services

g. Facilitates/schedules delivery of medication to patients (home delivery or intercampus courier)

h. Documents progress in various software platforms (EMR, patient management software, dispensing software, etc.)

i. Follows up with office practices and/or patients to ensure receipt of medication

j. Orders and maintains inventory of medications as needed

k. Understands and is compliant with all state and federal laws, regulations, policies/procedures, and guidelines as related to specialty pharmacy - 50%

Supports the prescription packing and shipping functions of the Specialty Pharmacy by:

a. Assembling and packaging prescription orders to prepare for shipment

b. Choosing appropriate shipping materials based on drug storage requirements

c. Documenting activities in appropriate software and packaging logs

d. Communicating tracking information to desired parties

e. Reconciling pharmacy claims with delivery information\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0- 20%

Maintains excellent customer service skills in communicating with many different specialty pharmacy customers including:

a. patients and caregivers

b. office practice staff

c. prescribers

d. pharmaceutical industry\u00A0- 10%

Participates in quality assurance/performance improvement or other projects as needed to develop or maintain best practices\u00A0- 10%

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent

No previous experience

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

Registered as State Certified with the SC Board of Pharmacy

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Retail pharmacy IS/software - Required
  • Familiarity with 3rd party payment plans - Required
  • Excellent communication skills, team-orientation and customer service skills required.\u00A0 Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.\u00A0 Ability to work collaboratively with Health-System and other Pharmacy staff members.\u00A0 Ability to handle frequent interruptions, adapts to changes in workload and schedule.\u00A0 Ability to set priorities and solve problems.\u00A0 Ability to respond quickly to emergency requests. - Required
  • Ability to work outdoors as business needs occur. Ability to stand for extended periods of time or walk frequently as business needs occur. - Required
