The Cohn lab, within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, focuses on understanding the interaction between HIV and the human immune system. Our studies utilize human immunology, virology, and state-of-the-art technologies to study clinical samples from people living with HIV. We focus our research on understanding the molecular, immunological and virologic forces that drive persistence of HIV-infected cells to inform cure strategies and identify novel drug targets.

The lab is recruiting a Software Development Engineer to design and develop software applications for new products or product enhancements where no optimal software solutions exist. The candidate will develop code to meet requirements and specifications of application. The candidate will perform testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of application throughout the development process and ongoing support and updates through the application lifespan. This is a senior-level position that operates under minimal supervision, works on complex projects requiring advanced knowledge and skills and may act as a lead or mentor to less experienced individuals.

This is a temporary position.



Responsibilities

    Follow software development best practices to design and develop software features to meet end-user specifications.
  • Create application architecture and design for small to mid-sized projects.
  • Lead development of small to mid-size projects.
  • Participate in code and design reviews.
  • Estimate software development tasks and participate in creating development and implementation schedules for features and applications.
  • Test & debug new and modified software.
  • Develop software features and reports.
  • Create and maintain documentation.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Provide Tier 2 support of software, troubleshoot user problems.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.
  • May require on-call support.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of directly related experience.
  • Expertise with modern programming paradigms in a language such as Java, C#, Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience building web applications using Django, Rails, or some equivalent MVC framework.
  • Familiarity with front-end Web languages and technologies, including JavaScript, AJAX, and JQuery.
  • Experience working with and developing REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of database management systems such as PostgreSQL and Oracle.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Sharp analytical abilities, proven design skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of relational databases with ORM experience.
  • Understanding of Python, JavaScript, SQL
  • Some experience with basic microbiology concepts and tools, such as AA and NT sequences and Biopython/Bioperl

The annual base salary range for this position is from $109,636.80 to $173,264.00 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
